Showcasing the Triangle’s role as top cleantech cluster at world’s leading smart grid trade show
RALEIGH, N.C. – Feb. 9, 2016 – The Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster (RTCC) and Wake County Economic Development (WCED) this week will take a regional delegation toDistribuTECH, the world’s leading smart grid trade show.
The Triangle region is one of the world’s top cleantech clusters, named one of just 11 members of the International Cleantech Network, and one of the top locations in the country for smart grid innovation. The region is home to several global energy and technology players, as well as top universities, including NC State University, which boasts the FREEDM Systems Center, the only federally funded center on smart grid in the country.
“The global rise of the ‘new energy’ economy and the ‘smart cities’ movement is shedding new light on the region’s strong cleantech cluster, making it more important than ever to support and spotlight this industry sector,” said WCED Executive Director Adrienne Cole.
RTCC recently completed a talent survey revealing that 120 Triangle-based companies plan to create 3,000 jobs in the next several years, and recent research from the N.C. Technology Association (NCTA) finds that N.C. tech job growth is second in the nation, with one-third being cleantech jobs.
RTCC will lead a coordinated effort at the conference including an exhibit booth and a special event called the Power Play Forum, a power-packed mini-conference within DistribuTECH. The Power Play Forum will feature 12 Triangle cleantech companies who will share case studies and new technologies that are leading the future.
“As the region’s cleantech sector continues to grow, we’re leveraging opportunities like DistribuTECH to tell that story to a global audience,” said RTCC Executive Director Jenn Bosser. “The Triangle is one of the few regional communities represented at the show, and that provides us a unique advantage for marketing and branding.”
Triangle companies and organizations participating in the delegation and Power Play Forum include ABB, Chatham Park, Duke Energy, DNA Group, ElectriCities, Kilpatrick Stockton & Townsend, LLP, FREEDM Systems Center, Green Energy Corp., Itron, Power Analytics, PowerSecure, Real Time Innovations, Research Triangle Regional Partnership, SAS, ScottMadden, Sensus, Smart Office Energy Solutions, Southern Energy Partners and Wake County Economic Development. The companies will present case studies on topics including grid edge solutions, renewables integration, Internet of Things, grid modernization and microgrid technologies.
