Part of national media campaign to spotlight Raleigh, Wake County and the region’s unique business stories
RALEIGH, N.C., February 23, 2015 – Wake County Economic Development (WCED) has partnered with the Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster (RTCC) to host a press familiarization tour on Feb. 25-27 to provide national, international and trade journalists with a behind-the-scenes look at local cleantech companies, organizations and research institutes. The goal of the tour is to showcase Raleigh, Wake County and the region as a global hub for cleantech research, development, talent and innovation, and for reporters to publish articles that feature the companies they meet with as well as positive messages about the region’s cleantech economy.
“Bringing national reporters to Wake County and showing them firsthand the strength of our region’s cleantech sector serves to spotlight the unique assets, companies and resources that make our ecosystem world-class,” said WCED’s Executive Director, Adrienne Cole.
The press tour itinerary includes visits to Wake County from seven journalists, and a lineup of meetings between these reporters and local cleantech companies, research institutes and industry leaders.
Stops along the tour include visits to NC State University’s Centennial Campus, SAS, Schneider Electric, Siemens, the Wireless Research Center as well as meetings with the City of Raleigh sustainability officials and local cleantech companies like ABB, Sensus, Cree, Cisco and RTI, among others. Reporters visiting the region represent publications and media outlets including The Huffington Post, Clean Edge, FierceMarkets’ Energy Group, CBS Interactive, TreeHugger, TechRepublic, Techopedia,EnerG Magazine, Smart Grid Today and China-based Xinhua News Agency.
“Global utility companies will spend trillions on smart infrastructure investments in the coming years,” said Lee Anne Nance, executive vice president of the Research Triangle Regional Partnership, which formed and manages the RTCC.
“Companies in our regional clean technology cluster want the utility industry and others to call on them to make those smarter, more resilient, less polluting upgrades and lead industry innovation,” Nance said. “Our job, as the lead economic development agency for our region, is to help make sure that happens. Fortunately, we are having great success.”
The press tour is part of WCED and the City of Raleigh Office of Economic Development’s national media campaign that recently launched.
