2015's Best & Worst Large Cities to Live in - Raleigh is #2

Everyone has a natural habitat. Some of us prefer the slow pace and bucolic setting of the countryside. Others are drawn to the part-rural, part-urban charm of suburbs. But more and more clusters of people are falling in love with the energetic pulse of the large metropolis.

“Big cities continue to grow considerably faster than in the previous decade and earlier,” according to a recent Brookings Institute analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data. In 2011, the rate of urban population growth actuallyoutpaced that within suburbs for the first time in nearly a century. Large cities owe this growing interest to several major trends: downtown areas are becoming increasingly livable, lifestyle preferences are changing and demographics are shifting.
So what makes these massive urban centers so attractive? For many of us, it’s all about the diversity and being in the center of the action. The possibilities for activities, food options and places to go are virtually limitless. For others, it’s the promise of opportunity — more jobs, better salaries, more people to meet. The tradeoff, of course, is limited square footage. But most city dwellers agree that less wiggle room is a small price to pay for the abundance of available amenities.

With August being a peak moving month, WalletHub compared the attractiveness of all the large cities in the U.S. in terms of livability, the quality of their health and education systems, economic growth and tax rates. Our data set includes a total of 31 key metrics. The results, as well as expert commentary and a detailed methodology, can be found below:
