Wake County Economic Development and City of Raleigh Launch National Storytelling Campaign

Part of five-year strategic plan to drive economic prosperity in Wake County

RALEIGH, N.C., January 20, 2015 - Wake County Economic Development (WCED) and the City of Raleigh launched a proactive national storytelling campaign to raise the profile of Raleigh, Wake County and the Greater Raleigh region.

To tell Wake County’s unique stories to the national media, WCED has hired Development Counsellors International (DCI), a national public relations and marketing firm that has more than 50 years’ experience specializing in marketing places – cities, states, countries and regions - and established relationships with national media and trade publications. WCED has also hired a marketing and public relations manager to collaborate with community partners to identify specific storylines and connect DCI with key spokespersons for media opportunities.

DCI has a strong history and relationship with the region including work with the Research Triangle Regional Partnership (RTRP), and more recently with the Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau. DCI was also instrumental in helping WCED in the development and launch of a regional talent attraction initiative,Work in the Triangle.

“We have a lot of great stories that have not been heard nationally,” said WCED’s Executive Director, Adrienne Cole. “We are excited about working with DCI, our partners and the community to put Raleigh and Wake County in the national spotlight.”

The media campaign is part of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce’s five-year  (2015-2019) economic development strategy, “Edge 5 – The Leading Edge,” a capital campaign designed to ensure Raleigh, Wake County and the region’s global competitiveness and economic prosperity.  Edge 5 investors span a variety of industries in the public and private sectors, and are committed to our success as a community.

“Local business leaders know this is a great community for our companies and our employees,” said Jim Hansen, PNC regional president and co-chair of the Edge 5 campaign. “We also know that to continue building on our region’s economic prosperity, we must continue to introduce this area to other business leaders and entrepreneurs across the globe, which is the goal of this initiative."

"The City of Raleigh's partnership with Wake County and Wake County Economic Development is a perfect example of how we continue to work together to not only tell Raleigh's story but to support the region,” said the City of Raleigh’s Economic Development Manager, James Sauls. “Specifically, the City's office of economic development is utilizing this public-private partnership to position Raleigh as a top five city for innovation and entrepreneurship.”
