Sports
If you like sports, you'll love Wake County.
As it relates to collegiate sports, this is ACC Country. It is very rare to have three major universities, each with big-time sports programs, in such close proximity to each other. That close proximity, coupled with their rich histories, leads to some of the biggest rivalries in all of sports.
While Raleigh and Wake County have traditionally been a hotbed for collegiate sports, professional teams have become a larger part of the sports scene. In 1997, Raleigh welcomed its first major league franchise, the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes. And in 2006, the Hurricanes truly united Triangle fans when they won the coveted Stanley Cup.
