Wendell - Wake County Municipality Highlight

Wendell, population 6,135, has a motto of “Small Town, Big Charm.” The town was incorporated in 1903 and named after Oliver Wendell Holmes, a local schoolteacher’s favorite poet. Wendell maintains small town charm while offering a high quality of life for its residents. Wendell’s residents and businesses enjoy a 100-acre park and community center with top class youth athletic programs as well as first class police and fire protection. Downtown Wendell is also home to three anchor merchants: Kannon’s Clothing, Mortex Apparel Outlet, and Perry’s Gun Shop. Wendell is ideally situated along U.S. Highways 264 and 64 (future I-495) and is only 20 minutes from downtown Raleigh and 30 minutes from I-95. Wendell has a growing industrial, commercial, and residential tax base. Wendell is a great place to live, work, and play. Wendell’s Annual Events include: Opening Day at the Park, Downtown Sidewalk Sale and Street Concert, Public Safety Day, 4th of July Parade, International Food Festival, Harvest Festival, Lighting of the Square, and the Wendell Wonderland featuring the Lake Myra Christmas Lights. 

Wendell Park & Community Center. The Town of Wendell Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of active and passive leisure opportunities. Wendell is proud to provide programs for youth, teens, adults, and senior citizens. Facilities within the Wendell Park include picnic shelters, ball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, nature trails, fitness classes, activity rooms, and hosts tournaments and seasonal sports games. Wendell is also home to the Eastern Wake Senior Center, which is hosts fun and exciting programs for senior citizens.

Wendell Falls. Developed by Newland Communities, the largest private developer of planned residential and urban-mixed communities, Wendell Falls at full build out is estimated to have 4,000 residential units (up to 10,000 new residents) and 2,000,000 square feet of commercial and office space.
