Wake County Economic Development Podcast Discusses Triangle's Booming Serious Gaming Industry

RALEIGH, N.C. – Ken Atkins, executive director for Wake County Economic Development (WCED) (www.raleigh-wake.org), has announced the release of a new audio podcast discussing many aspects of the booming gaming industry in the Triangle, from the types of games developed to the connection to other industries in the area. The Triangle boasts 35 gaming companies and more than 1,200 employees who engage in diverse facets of gaming technologies. The podcast features commentary from Wayne Watkins, project manager for WCED, and addresses topics such as:

·         An overview of the diversity and variation in the Triangle gaming industry

·         A description of serious games versus entertainment games and their roles in education, the military and medical training

·         Evolution of the gaming industry and the future role of gaming in North Carolina

·         Game development programs offered at local universities and community colleges in the Triangle

 

In the podcast, Watkins also addresses the upcoming inaugural Triangle Game Conference, titled “Innovate or Die.” The conference, currently the only one of its kind in the Southeast, will bring together the region’s most innovative gaming masterminds for two days of knowledge building, information sharing and career exploration. The event will be held on April 29-30 at the Raleigh Marriott City Center, located at 500 Fayetteville St., and the Raleigh Convention Center, located at 500 S.
